About Meri Meri

Meri Meri was founded by Meredithe Start-Smith. The name of the brand came from the nickname she had as a child. 

Growing up in Kansas, near Hallmark’s HQ, Meridithe would create her own greetings cards and stick them to the windows of the building, hoping that the people that worked there would see them.

In 1985, she started her own business, creating bright handmade cards that were sold in stationery stores across Los Angeles. Meredithe moved to the UK with her husband, and the company is now based in Cheltenham, selling a vast collection of charming party wares across the UK, Europe and the US.

How to plan the perfect party

Many people think that throwing a brilliant party is an art form, but the honest truth is that it doesn’t have to be! Meri Meri’s stunning range of party accessories means that you can make hosting the perfect event a breeze. 

Here are our top tips for making sure your celebration is a success, whether it's a birthday party, anniversary celebration or baby shower!

First, choose a suitable date and time. For example, if you’re hosting for little ones, you’ll want to hold your party in the afternoon. If you’re planning a party for more grown-up guests, then an evening celebration is perfect. If you’re looking to host an event at your favourite restaurant, function room or hotel, you’ll need to check availability too. You don’t want to get the invites out only to find the venue is double-booked!

You’ll then want to plan your guest list. Bear in mind that not all your guests will be able to come, so you may want to invite a few extra people to be on the safe side!

The next step is to decide your budget. What do you want to splurge on, and what do you want to save money on? What will you buy and what can you make at home? You’ll need to consider decorations, food, entertainment, drinks and party favours… not forgetting the cake too! We recommend putting together a spreadsheet so you can keep track of what you’ve spent.

Next, pick your theme. There’s a bit more about choosing the perfect party theme below! When you know your theme, you can start planning which party accessories you want.

After you’ve got the basics in place, get your invites out! Your invites need to include the location, date, time and theme of the party. If you want your guests to come in fancy dress, mention that too. Give guests the opportunity to RSVP, as well as a chance to let you know if they have any dietary requirements or allergies.
